I Was Born In The Wrong Generation
It's a popular phrase used by teenagers. They hear about fun things in the 90's that they missed out on and whine about it. But really, we were all born in the wrong generation. We are in a world ravaged by technology. Yes, I used the word RAVAGED. Think about how much technology you use in a day. The amount of technology used in an iPhone 5s is more advanced than the technology in spaceships sent to the moon in 2000. Over 2.4 billion use this internet now. How many times have you visited Wikipedia? There are 3.7 million articles in English, and 15 million in other languages. Candy Crush has 7.6 million users per day, and 225 million per month. The company who owns Candy Crush earns about $850,000 a day, and $230 million a year. There are 100 billion searches on Google every month. YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, with over 24 hours of video uploaded every minute. There are about 175 million people on Facebook right now at this moment. 1 out of 6 couples married last year met online. There are about 22 million hours of video watched on Netflix every day and 19 million hours of music streamed on Pandora. 50 billion devices will be connected to the internet by 2020. It is predicted by 2049 that a $1,000 computer will exceed the computation capabilities of the entire human species. How much time do you spend on your device a day? Studies show that the average teenager spends 10-12 hours a day on technology, and 8-10 hours a day for an adult. Now, I'm not trying to say technology is a bad thing. It can be very useful like the facts stated above. I just want to state that I see people on Facebook ALL THE TIME. I used to do it as well but now I try to limit myself, and it has made a considerable difference. Kids come home from school, they do their homework, and then sit on their phones not even talking to their parents. Then, to make matters worse, they end up warming up some food in the microwave. Before the microwave was invented, people actually helped cook the dinner and then sat down to have a meal with their family. Kids spend about 2 hours a day speaking to their parents. I'm not saying I am not guilty of this, but I want to change that. I am pledging to spend only 6 hours a day on technology for fun, and I am going to try and eat meals with the family at least twice a week in the same room and talking to each other. Studies also show that this will improve the mood of children, get better grades, and they will be more happy knowing their parents are wondering about them. If you would like to make the pledge as well, please do. It will improve our lives so much.
